A8VO160 Charge Pump

The A8VO160 Charge Pump (Pilot Pump) is a dedicated integrated external gear pump, specifically engineered for the Bosch Rexroth A8VO160 Series 61/63 open-circuit axial piston main pump. Tailored for the hydraulic systems of 25–35 ton heavy construction machinery, it is coaxially integrated at the rear PTO end of the main pump, with its rotational speed fully synchronized with the engine. As the "core power guarantee" of the main pump, it undertakes three critical functions: providing stable pilot control pressure, delivering forced lubrication to internal components of the main pump, and replenishing oil leakage in the hydraulic system. It effectively prevents main pump cavitation, protects precision components such as slippers and valve plates, and ensures reliable operation of the entire equipment under harsh working conditions such as mining, infrastructure construction, and earthmoving operations.

Product Description

 A8VO160 Charge  Pump  Overview

The A8VO160 Charge Pump (Pilot Pump) is a high-performance fixed-displacement external gear pump, specifically engineered as a standard integrated auxiliary component for the Bosch Rexroth A8VO160 Series 61/63 open-circuit axial piston main pump. Tailored for the hydraulic systems of 25–35 ton class heavy construction machinery, it is coaxially integrated at the rear PTO (Power Take-Off) end of the A8VO160 main pump, with its rotational speed fully synchronized with the main pump input shaft and the engine. As a core auxiliary part under medium-heavy load and stable flow working conditions, it mainly undertakes three key tasks: providing stable pilot control pressure, delivering forced internal lubrication for the main pump, and replenishing oil leakage on the high-pressure side of the hydraulic system. It effectively prevents cavitation of the main pump, reduces internal wear of components such as bearings, slippers and valve plates, and ensures the stable, efficient and reliable operation of the entire hydraulic system under harsh working conditions such as construction, mining, infrastructure and earthmoving operations. With its robust structure, excellent wear resistance, precise pressure regulation and strong compatibility, it is perfectly matched with the original Rexroth A8VO160 main pump and widely used in various medium-heavy duty mobile machinery around the world.

Core Features & Advantages

  • Heavy-Duty & Stable Flow Adaptability: With a standard displacement of 12 cm³/rev, it provides stable flow output, perfectly meeting the stable pilot control and strong lubrication needs of 25–35 ton class medium-heavy machinery. It is fully adapted to the 350 bar high-pressure working condition of the A8VO160 main pump, with strong anti-cavitation ability, ensuring continuous heavy-load operation in mines, infrastructure and other harsh environments. The flow is proportional to the input speed and displacement, realizing seamless transition from maximum flow to zero flow, with high operation efficiency.

  • Integrated Design & High Reliability: Integrated with the A8VO160 main pump, coaxial drive ensures high transmission efficiency and compact structure, which is perfectly adapted to the limited installation space of medium-heavy equipment. The built-in pilot relief valve stably maintains the pilot pressure at 5.0 MPa, effectively preventing system overpressure damage; an additional pressure reduction valve can be optionally configured to meet the needs of multi-circuit control. The quenched alloy steel gear and ductile iron casing have excellent wear resistance and impact resistance, ensuring long service life and low failure rate under medium-heavy load and high-vibration working conditions.

  • Multi-Functional Integration & System Protection: It integrates three core functions: serving as the pilot control pressure source (driving multi-way valves, main pump regulators, travel/rotary motors and other executive components), providing forced lubrication for internal parts of the main pump (bearings, slippers, valve plates), and replenishing oil to prevent cavitation. It is an indispensable core component for the normal operation of the A8VO160 main pump. The integrated design also optimizes the hydraulic circuit layout, reducing pipeline connections and potential oil leakage points.

  • Strong Compatibility & Easy Maintenance: It is 100% interchangeable with the original Rexroth A8VO160 main pump, and is widely compatible with mainstream medium-heavy machinery models such as Caterpillar E330B/330BL, Doosan DH258/DH300, Sany 265/305, XCMG 260/300, and Lonking LG6250. The standardized design ensures convenient disassembly and assembly; daily maintenance only needs to check the oil cleanliness, oil level and seal integrity, which is simple and efficient, reducing equipment downtime and maintenance costs. It can be quickly replaced in case of failure to ensure continuous operation of the equipment.

  • High Adaptability to Working Conditions: It adopts a robust structural design, which can adapt to harsh working environments such as high temperature, high dust and high vibration in mines, construction sites and earthmoving operations. The hydraulic oil temperature adaptation range is 15–65℃, and the oil cleanliness requirement is ≥ ISO 18/15, which can maintain stable performance under complex working conditions and ensure the reliability of the entire hydraulic system.

Charge Pump FAQ

1.Do I need to install the Charge Pump separately? What should I pay attention to when replacing it?

A: No, it is integrated with the main pump and does not require separate installation. When replacing, ensure that the spline shaft is accurately aligned with the main pump drive shaft, tighten the fixing screws with a torque wrench, keep the contact surface flat and free of impurities, and use a seal ring of the correct size to ensure sealing performance.

2.What preparations are needed before starting the Charge Pump for the first time?

A: Manually fill the charge pump with clean hydraulic oil through the drain port to empty the internal air and avoid dry running damage. Jog start several times to confirm that the rotation direction is clockwise (when viewed from the shaft end), and there is no abnormal sound or oil leakage before formal operation. In addition, manually turn the main shaft to check the self-priming condition of the charge pump.

3.What are the requirements for hydraulic oil when using the Charge Pump?

A: The cleanliness of hydraulic oil must meet the ISO 18/15 standard, and the oil temperature should be kept between 15–65℃. It is recommended to regularly replace hydraulic oil and filters; under harsh working conditions such as mines and high dust, the replacement cycle should be shortened to avoid component wear caused by oil pollution.

4. Can the rotation direction of the  Charge Pump be reversed? What are the consequences of reverse rotation?

A: No, it cannot be reversed; its rotation direction is the same as that of the main pump. Reverse rotation will cause no oil delivery, system pressure loss, internal gear wear, and even damage to the pump body and the main pump. When installing, pay attention to the chamfer direction of the gear rotor to avoid reverse installation.

5. Is the Charge Pump a dedicated accessory? Can it work normally without it?

A: It is a dedicated charge pump for the main pump and cannot be used universally with other models. The A8VO160 main pump cannot work normally without it, which will cause serious damage to the internal components of the main pump and affect the service life of the entire hydraulic system.

6.Can the displacement of the Charge Pump be replaced arbitrarily?

A: No, it cannot. The standard displacement is 12 cm³/rev; replacing it with other displacements (10/14 cm³/rev) without authorization will lead to insufficient or too high pilot pressure, abnormal lubrication flow, and early wear of the main pump. The displacement should be selected according to the actual working conditions of the equipment.

FAQ

1.How does the variable displacement work?

The pump's flow is adjusted by changing the angle of an internal swash plate. As the swash plate angle changes, the stroke length of the pistons varies, which in turn changes the volume of fluid displaced per rotation, allowing the flow rate to adapt to the system's needs.
